Annual Picnic a Success!
Updated: Sep 1
Dawn Smith, President
After a sweltering picnic at Bay Beach last year, the LWVGGB decided to move our
Annual Picnic indoors, at the ADRC, on August 6, following the reading at City Hall of our proclamation for the 61st Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. About 25 of our members and guests gathered at the ADRC’s Grounded Café to visit, enjoy dinner, get an update on our League, and learn from our guest speaker, H. James Smet, representing Migration Advocacy (COMSA).

With ICE agents moving into Wisconsin, this is a very uncertain time for many of our
immigrant neighbors, and Migration Advocacy is working hard to offer support. Whether
by helping people prepare for childcare, should they get arrested, or collecting and
distributing culturally appropriate foods for people afraid to leave their homes, H. and
Sister Melanie are on the frontlines, supporting our immigrant communities.

A special welcome to our new member and to our early voting poll workers who attended the picnic as soon as their civic duties concluded.
