On Thursday, November 20, more than seven respected civic organizations came together for an interactive, community-focused exploration of the Wisconsin Constitution. They included:
The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin (LWVWI)
Law Forward
All Voting is Local
Wisconsin Public Education Network
Wisconsin Democracy Campaign
Wisconsin Interfaith Voter Engagement Campaign
Joshua
and others
Debra Cronmiller, LWVWI Executive Director, along with leaders from Law Forward and the Democracy Campaign, explained the importance of staying focused and engaged in what is happening in opposition to the Wisconsin Constitution. Denise Gaumer Hutchison from the LWVGGB and WPEN spoke about the crisis facing public education funding, including the fact that the Wisconsin State Legislature is not meeting its constitutional requirement to fund public schools. She echoed the need to stay vigilant and engaged.
Attendees had an opportunity to play the Wisconsin Civics game and win prizes. LWVGGB had a number of members in attendance. Participants left prepared to stand up for a stronger democracy and with a clearer understanding of the current threats to the Wisconsin Constitution.
