ACA Subsidies

The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) sent a memo dated December 11, 2025, to the United States Senate about the set-to-expire Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, urging senators to make a good faith effort to pass legislation to ensure health care affordability in the new year. Summary of Meeting with Rooted In

On December 17, the Healthcare and Environment Committee met via Zoom with Selena Darrow, president and founder of Rooted In, Inc., a non-profit organization working to improve the health of the Green Bay community by increasing access to nutritious food. She introduced Deb Polster, the new executive director,and shared the background and current work of Rooted In. Rooted In, Inc., was founded in 2023 by Selena Darrow based on her 35 year culinary career and lived experience as a single mom. Rooted In's mission is to build a “community table” where all people are nourished and uplifted. The nonprofit  improves access to fresh and nutritious foods as a tool for transforming health and wellbeing. Programs include:

 

•           The Glean Team — rescues edible food that would otherwise go to waste. Partners with local companies to obtain food donations.

•           Chef’s Table — recipe and cooking education using local ingredients from farmers markets and artisans to inspire healthy home cooking.

•           Nourishment for All — supports sustainable food access and nutrition security. Creates recipes, offers cooking demos, and works with partners to reduce food waste while improving food literacy.


 

Oppose Senate Bill 553

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin OPPOSES the upcoming passage of Senate Bill 553 in the Assembly, which already passed in the Senate on November 18, 2025.

This bill proposes changes in the definition of abortion by specifying certain medical procedures that would not be classified as an abortion. Read the LWVWI position here.
