At the end of October, the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin hosted a powerful three-part webinar series, “Issues Briefing 2025: Understanding and Surviving Our Constitutional Crisis.” The series explored the depth and urgency of our nation’s current constitutional crisis – what’s at stake for our democracy and how circumstances in each of the three branches of government have contributed to this unprecedented breakdown. Most importantly, the speakers offered concrete actions we can take as citizens, advocates, and voters to defend and strengthen our democratic institutions.

Lauren Miller Karalunas
Democracy Counsel, Brennan Center for Justice
In her work with the Brennan Center, Lauren Miller Karalunas litigates voting rights, election interference, and constitutional law cases, advises lawmakers and administrators on legislation and policy, and testifies before state legislatures.
WEBINAR 2: LEGISLATIVE BRANCH
Eleanor Neff Powell
Professor of Political Science, UW-Madison
Eleanor Neff Powell is the Letters and Science Nancy Obin Sukenik Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a scholar of American politics, focusing on the United States Congress, political parties and the influence of money in American politics. Her primary research interests lie in American politics, with secondary research interests in Comparative Politics and Political Methodology.
WEBINAR 3: JUDICIAL BRANCH
Stephen Vladeck
Law Professor, Georgetown University Law Center
Stephen Vladeck is a nationally recognized expert on the federal courts, the Supreme Court, national security law, and military justice. He authored "The Shadow Docket: How the Supreme Court Uses Stealth Rulings to Amass Power and Undermine the Republic," and he is a highly regarded appellate advocate.
