Happy Fall, my League Friends! I’m just back from a weekend in Door County with Chad, celebrating our twenty-eighth wedding anniversary. The weather was fantastic, and we went to a drive-in and saw E.T. and Jaws – both of which are still as entertaining as the first time I saw them. It was a good reminder for me of how lucky I am to live in Wisconsin.
Things here at the League are starting to pick up again, after taking some time to recharge over the summer. At our Lively Issues meeting, we had heard from members how important it is to them that we cultivate and focus on DEI in the upcoming year. With that in mind, Terri Gulyas has started a DEI committee, and their first order of business was to work with the state and offer a DEI program to our members. At the first session, in person at the library in Howard, we got to see how other Leagues in the state are incorporating DEI in the work they do. I learned that our League is doing a lot of really great things, but we also could do more. The upcoming sessions will be offered via Zoom. I highly recommended attending any of them you’re available for. Watch the newsletter for more information from Terri.
On the President’s call, we were informed that the state will be hosting an Issues Briefing, via Zoom, on multiple dates. If you’re interested in attending and getting updates on what’s happening with the League in Wisconsin, you can sign up here: LWVWI Issues Briefing.
I know all our committees have been active this month, and Voter Services is starting our planning for the upcoming general election year. I encourage you to take the time to read through the newsletter and learn about our upcoming plans. If you’re interested in getting involved, don’t hesitate to reach out to the committee chairs, or, if you want to get involved and you aren’t sure how, I’m always available to brainstorm with you.
