League Volunteers Welcome GBAPS Students Back to School

By Lynn Meshke, Vice President

League volunteers were excited to be part of the Green Bay Area Public Schools Welcome Back Celebration 2026!

Our booth gave students a fun introduction to voting through our “Principal for a Day” election, while parents received useful, nonpartisan voting information. And, as always, our temporary tattoos were a BIG hit!

We also had a great conversation with new Superintendent Michael Hernandez about the importance of encouraging civic engagement among students. We look forward to exploring opportunities to partner with the District to help make that happen.

It was a privilege to partner with Green Bay Schools staff and other community organizations to kick off another great year for GBAPS students. It truly takes a village, and we were proud to be part of it!

P.S. The votes are in - Spider-Man won our “Principal for a Day” election!

Almost 350 students cast their votes, and it was great to see how seriously they took the responsibility. We hope this fun experience helped introduce a new generation to the importance - and excitement - of participating in our democracy.
